Silicone covers designed to cover existing nose pads.
These nose pads are actually covers which can be thought of like a boot because of its ability to slip over another pad. They are soft and made of silicone which gives them the ability to stretch the opening around a nose pad that is larger than it. Thus acting like a sock or shoe over an existing nose pad, which gives it its name "Boot pad". Below are some of the measurements of each of the three boot pad sizes.
There are three sizes to these unique pads, with each varying a little from each other.
1. First the small pad measures 15-15.5mm in length and around 9mm at its widest point. The opening measures 6mm in length by 3mm in width.
2. Second, we have the medium pad which measures around 16.5-17mm in length and about 9.5mm at its widest point. It also measures 6.5mm by 3mm for the opening in the back.
3. Third, the largest pad measures approx. 19mm in length and about 10.5mm at its widest point. The opening in the back is 7mm by 3.5mm.
What pad to choose?
If you can measure your existing nose pad in millimeters, the following are some suggestions;
Note: The above are approx. ranges for both millimeter and inches range. These pads are mostly used when covering existing hard nose pads and need that soft cushion to add comfort. Most cases are for hard nose pads that cannot be removed, or a pad that may be difficult to remove. Although these are convenient and easy to work with, we do recommend that you take in mind that they should be changed as often as would any regular silicone nose pad. This maintains a clean area and leaves less chance of oil and dirt build up that can occur in silicone nose pads.
On rare occasions, a person may try to apply these boot pads on what may seem to be an existing nose pad, when in fact, the nose pad is gone, leaving only the insert that supported it. So, before you try adding a boot pad over your nose pads, check to see if the pad is in tact. A nose pad that is in not in tact will have a small metal or hard plastic piece that hurts when wearing. The inserts are small when they are metal and may have a brand or logo on it, where as a full nose pad will cover this metal or hard plastic piece. Reasons for losing a pad of an insert usually is a result in a worn or old pad that has torn from stress and has peeled or broken off. If the case is that you have only the insert, check the mount type for that pad and order a new set of nose pads that will attach to your frame. You will save yourself some time and frustration in doing so.
