Nose pads for Silhouette frames
Here are specific nose pads designed for a particular brand of eyeglasses. The brand is called Silhouette. They are made in Austria and are well known for there design and the fact that they are very lightweight eyeglass frames. Silhouette first design of the nose pad arm(the stem that carries the nose pads), was a typical slide on nose pad design. But with recent changes, the brand has modified the nose pad arm and therefore made it necessary to have a specific nose pad for that frame. Although the Silhouette brand is the first to incorporate this nose pad design, there have been similar designs in the past that would label the mount style of the nose pads as plug-in. More commonly found in Nike brand eyeglass frames and a few others as well.
Here are some specifics about this nose pad;
1. The pad length is approx. 12.5mm in along the longest area of the nose pad.
2. The width is approx. 7.5mm across the widest portion of the nose pad.
3. The area where the nose pad arm inserts or plugs into the nose pad measures approx. 2.3mm at the longest part.
4. The opening measures 1mm top to bottom of the area where the nose pad arm inserts.
5. The pad is made of a semi-soft material called vinyl which allows medium flexibility.
Although the area inside the pad has an area of 3mm in length, and the opening is 2.3mm, the nose pad arm will fit into this opening as the material of the pad allows a little stretch to permit the wider arm to enter a slightly smaller opening. This allows the pad to stay in place and not to be able to retract.
Note: As we have mentioned above, this pad is solely designed for the Silhouette brand eyeglasses. However, this does not claim the fact that other frames may not have a similar method of mounting, which opens the opportunity for other frames to fit the same pad. Be sure to measure the area of your nose pad arm, when contemplating using this nose pad for an alternate frame with similar design.
Reminder-- It is very important that you know your frames method of mounting, such as snap-in, screw-in, plug-in, etc.. This is the first aspect to look at when replacing nose pads. All other options concerning size, shape, material, etc. are to be considered only after the correct mount style has been verified.
